Holosync

The short answer

Holosync is an audio meditation programme from Centerpointe Research Institute, founded by Bill Harris in 1989. You listen with headphones to a soundtrack with binaural beats underneath it, and the programme progresses through levels over months and years. It has been part of my routine for years.

How I use it

The programme has 13 levels: the Awakening Prologue, then four levels each of Awakening, Purification and Flowering. I’ve worked my way through them and I’m on the last, Flowering 4. Usually five to six in the morning, in bed, before the day starts, though I’m less disciplined about it than I used to be. These days, whenever I have an hour free, I put the headphones on. It is often where I come up with solutions: it seems to give my mental hamster a run on the wheel, and I come out calmer and more focused. Holosync was on my daily routine tracker years before this site existed, alongside the run, the cold shower and bed by ten.

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

For anyone who wants a structured practice that builds over years, and who will sit still for an hour with headphones on. Not for anyone who wants a ten-minute app session on the train, and not a substitute for anything a doctor has prescribed. If you have a health condition or take medication, check with your doctor before starting a daily practice like this.

This is not medical advice. It is what I use and why. Consult your doctor before starting a new routine, especially if you have a health condition or take medication.
